Chesapeake is a fast-growing city located in Tidewater Virginia. The city encompasses more than 350 square miles and has a population of greater than 233,000. The city is composed of a unique mix of urban and rural areas, with Greenbrier, Great Bridge, Deep Creek, and Western Branch being areas of continual growth and development.
The Environmental Health section of the Chesapeake Health Department is responsible for a variety of programs including inspection/regulatory oversight of nearly 700 food facilities, 50 hotels/motels, public swimming pools, campgrounds/summer camps, massage and tattoo establishments, to name a few. Environmental Health also permits drinking and irrigation wells and onsite sewage systems. Other program areas include rabies control, marinas, and general environmental complaint. The staffing for this section includes an Environmental Health Manager, two Environmental Health Supervisors, nine Environmental Health Specialists, and two Office Services Specialists.
