The Appleton Health Department exists to safeguard the environment, promote public health, and protect consumers by providing high quality services that are responsive to the needs of the community. Our belief is that prevention is the most effective public health strategy.  Environmental Health, Nursing, Preparedness and Weights and Measures are all part of the health department programs and services provided to the community.

The Environmental Health section protects the health and safety of Appleton residents and visitors through regulatory activities in restaurants and retail food establishments, public recreational facilities such as public swimming pools and lodging establishments, manufactured home communities and tattoo and body piercing establishments.  Additionally, we investigate nuisance complaints, housing sanitation complaints, rodent and insect infestations, lead based paint hazards, human or animal rabies exposure, and other environmental hazards. We also provide public education and act as a referral mechanism to other state and local agencies for information on environmental and safety hazards.
