Comments
Free chlorine test first showed a residual of 1.5 free chlorine, but the water became extremely cloudy when dpd reagent powder was added. After several attempts to trouble shoot this condition a test was run that added 10 parts pool water with 15 parts fresh water that was free of chlorine residual (bottled water). Upon adding the dpb powder to the solution it turned dark pink and was clear as it should normally appear. Based on the titration test and multiplication factor based on dilution it is estimated that the free chlorine is in excess of 22 ppm. Currently there are not set high levels for free chlorine, but this level is excessively high and will likely cause skin and eye irritation. The free chlorine level should be brought back into the 10-5ppm range. As the level of Cl is so high it is recommended that the pool be closed until such time free Cl is brought into the desired and required range, but as it appears free Cl is present it is not required that the pool be shut at this time. Until the level falls into range that it can be accurately tested, the test should be diluted with 1 part pool water and 1 part tap/bottle water until solution does not turn cloudy, then double the end result based on drops added. If this process cannot better ensure that free Cl is present then it is recommended that the pool be closed. A re-inspection will take place in 7 days to determine progress. The pool manager (Emily) will be contacted as well to discuss the situation.
