Inspection Information
Facility Name: Fairfield Inn
Facility Type: Pool
[?] Inspection type: Follow-up
Inspection date: 05-November-2018
Violations: A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.
3701-31-04 (B)(4)(c)
Repeat At the time of inspection, the safety vacuum release system and automatic chemical controller tests were not documented.
To ensure the SVRS and ACC are working properly, both shall be tested monthly and then documented accordingly. Ensure the safety vacuum release system and automatic chemical controller is tested monthly and then documented.
3701-31-04 (B)(6)(j)
Critical Repeat At the time of inspection, the safety vacuum release system was observed not being tested on a monthly basis.
To ensure the SVRS is working properly, the safety vacuum release system shall be tested monthly. Ensure the SVRS is tested monthly and then documented.
3701-31-04 (D)(7)(d)
Critical Repeat At the time of inspection, the flow switch on the automatic chemical controller was observed not tested.
To ensure the ACC flow switch shut off valve works properly, the ACC shall be tested monthly. Ensure the ACC flow switch shut off valve is tested monthly and documented.
The following violation(s) have been corrected since the last inspection.
3701-31-04 (B)(1)(k)/Chemical storage or use shall not result in imminent health hazard.
In the storage closet adjacent to the pool, chemicals were observed not properly stored - diatomaceous earth (DE) was observed not contained and labeled. Containers of acid were also observed being stored in closet.
To prevent hazards and misuse, all chemicals shall be contained and labeled and then stored separate from each other. Upon making the operator aware of the chemical storage, the containers of acid were relocated to the pump room. The PIC also stated the DE will be cleaned up and discarded. When cleaning the DE, it is recommended either vacuuming it up with a sealed HEPA vacuum or getting the substance wet and then mopping it up.
3701-31-04 (B)(4)(a)(i)/Disinfection residuals are tested daily at pool side at required intervals for pools/automatic chemical controllers/special features
The free chlorine was observed not being tested prior to opening and then, while operational, every 12 hours.
To ensure the free chlorine is at or above the minimum amount, the chlorine residual shall be tested prior to opening and, when operational, every 12 hours. Ensure the free chlorine is tested prior to opening and then every 12 hours.
3701-31-04 (B)(4)(a)(ii)/Combined chlorine is tested daily at pool side prior to use
At the time of inspection, the combined chlorine was observed not being tested prior to opening and then every 12 hours.
To ensure the combined chlorine is at or below 1.0 ppm, the combined chlorine shall be tested prior to operating and the every 12 hours. Ensure the combined chlorine is tested prior to opening and, when operational, every 12 hours.
3701-31-04 (B)(4)(a)(iii)/pH is tested daily at pool side at required intervals for pools/automatic chemical controllers/special features
At the time of inspection, the pH was observed not being tested prior to opening and then every 12 hours when operational.
To ensure the pH is within normal limits, the pH shall be tested prior to operating and then every 12 hours. Ensure the pH is tested prior to opening and then every 12 hours.
3701-31-04 (B)(6)(f)/Required turnover rates are sufficient
At the time of inspection, the flow rate was observed at 25 gallons per minute (turnover rate of 615 minutes).
To ensure the pool is being properly filtered and disinfected, the turnover rate shall be 8 hours or 480 minutes. Have the system evaluated for needed repairs, cleaning, etc. to increase the flow to at or above 32 gallons per minute.
3701-31-04 (B)(6)(p)/Deck surfaces are free of standing water or other hazards.
On the southwest side of the pool, an uncovered hole was observed in the deck (used for the installing of the handicap lift.
To prevent the pooling of water or patrons from obtaining cuts or other injuries, the deck shall be smooth, slip-resistant and free of any hazards. Cover the handicap lift hole.
Comments
- At the time of inspection, all the chemicals were observed properly stored, the readings were observed being taken at the appropriate intervals, and the flow meter was observed with a reading of about 32 gpm. Ensure the flow is at or above 32 gpm. The aforementioned violations were corrected and are satisfactory. The violations noted above will be checked during the next standard inspection.
