Comments
On August 1, 2016, the Troy Aquatic Park (located at 460 W. Staunton, Troy OH 45373) was affected by an ammonia gas release that came from a Hobart Arena Ice Rink Ammonia Vent Stack. The following was reported by the Troy Aquatic Manager Carrie Slater:
1. At 12:36 p.m. the ammonia gas was released, and the gas immediately went toward the pool water.
2. All patrons, employees, and life guards were evacuated to the Troy High Stadium location.
3. Four life guards and the pool manager were exposed to the gas and had to have medical treatment.
4. The Troy City Fire Department responded to incident, Eric Krites was in charge of the Fire Departments first response.
5. Once the Troy Fire Department gave the all clear, pool employees took the pool chemistry to see if the water was affected. Both pools were in proper range, and the pools were reopened.
6. Troy Fire Department requested that Troy Aquatic contact Miami County Public Health due to the fact that ammonia reacts with water and chlorine.
7. The Aquatic Manager sent an email (attached) about the incident at 3:08 p.m. to a Public Health Staff Member (Shane Snapp).

Around four o’clock Nate Bednar (Emergency Preparedness Coordinator) and Shane Snapp (Health Inspector) met with the Manger to review the incident and also they performed a consult inspection. At time of inspection, no issues were observed.
