Environmental Health staff performs sanitation and safety inspections of all licensed child care facilities in Teton County. Childcare facilities are licensed by the Wyoming Department of Family Services. Each licensed childcare facility is inspected by WY DFS and the local fire authority as well as Teton County Public Health.
The purpose of daycare health inspections is to provide education to operators and enforce sanitary and safety standards for the operation and maintenance of these facilities. Child care facilities are inspected using the regulations in the Wyoming Child Care Licensing Rule Chapter 9 and the Teton Health District Rule for Food Safety 2014. The Wyoming Department of Family Services classifies childcare facilities into one of three categories. The classifications are: Family Child Care Homes, Family Child Care Centers or Child Care Centers. Child care centers are inspected once per year while Family Child Care Homes and Family Child Care Centers are inspected once every three years with self-evaluations required in years that on-site inspections do not occur. Investigations are also completed on reports of disease, complaints, construction, fire, etc. Please remember that the inspections performed by Teton County Public Health of childcare facilities are in addition to routine inspections conducted by the Wyoming Department of Family Services.
