Recreational Water Reports

Environmental Health staff performs inspections of public recreational water facilities in Teton County. These facilities include swimming pools, wading pools, spray pools, and spas at recreational facilities, hotels, ranches, and bed & breakfast. Additionally, the Recreational Water Program investigates complaints including illness, injury, and unsanitary conditions at all public facilities.  Inspections are conducted to determine compliance to the Wyoming Regulations for Swimming Pools, Spas and similar installations.  According to this regulation there are two classifications of pool and spa installations; general use and limited use. Inspection codes and inspection frequency are based on the type of pool or spa.

General Use: Pools and spas that are open to the general public for use. This includes recreational swims, swim meets, exercise classes, and formal swimming and diving classes.

Limited Use: Pools and spas that are operated by an organization for their residents and invited guests only. Examples of limited use pools and spas are hotels, home owners associations, and health clubs.

Seasonal facilities are only open for a limited time during the year-usually during the summer. One routine inspection is conducted per season.

Year-around facilities are open all year. Two routine inspections are conducted per year.

Violations

"Critical violations"of the Wyoming Regulations for Swimming Pools are those that if left uncorrected are more likely to cause illness or injury. Some examples of critical violations are maintaining proper chemical balance for disinfection, appropriate gates and fences surrounding the water facility, and appropriate safety and emergency equipment.

"Non-critical violations" are not directly related to causing illness or injury, but if left uncorrected could impede the operation of the pool or spa. Some examples of non-critical violations are the condition of locker rooms, proper record keeping, and equipment maintenance.
